The second photo was a straight on shot of the subject. The light was positioned to the left of the model so half of her face would be illuminated. The detail and the highlight of the eyes and mouth is the most standout feature in this photo.

One of the problems we encountered was that we needed to create our own makeshift studio. It was difficult to tape down the black sheet of fabric. It was extremely long and wrinkled so we couldn't create a perfect background.

Types of Light:
- Ambient light refers to light that is not explicitly given by the photographer.
- Main light is the primary light source that illuminates the subject.
- Fill light is used to lighten shadows.
- Diffused light is light that has passed through another object and is softened.
- Ceiling bounce when light is bounced off the ceiling and is softened.
- Background light is light used to illuminate the background of the set.
- Hair light is used to highlight the hair and outline the head.
- Natural light is light that happens naturally in a photo without much manipulation.
The colour daylight depends on what conditions you shoot in. In sunsets and sunrises the temperature of the light is around 1850K. Moon light is at 4100k to 4150K. Horizon daylight is at 5000K. Vertical daylight is at 5500K to 6000K. Overcast daylight is at 6500K. In a clear blue sky the temperature is at 1500K to 2700K. The colour of incandescent tungsten bulbs are at 3200K which is white. Flashes mimic the colour of lightbulbs.
Types of Portraits:
Candids when the subject is aware of the photographer are usually characterized with unposed subjects. Candids when the subject is unaware is when the photographer did not manipulate the environment and everything is natural and spontaneous. Posed formal portraits are usually made for business or other formal occasions. Posed informal portraits are regular portraits for all other forms of occasions.Self portraits are photos of the artist by the artist.
These are my favourite portraits because of how amazing they are artistically and how the tell a story. In the first one it depicts and image of a Native American in cold weather. The artist in the summary tells the viewer how the population of Native American populations are declining due to urbanization and politics. In the second photo it shows a displaced family. The people in the photo do not look very fortunate since they are wearing dirty clothing. This photo appeals to me because it shows a lot of expression and the distraught face the mother. It exploits the harshness of reality and how they can affect people. This is a photo of a man who had just been liberated from a Hutu death camp where members of the Tutsi tribe were being incarcerated, being starved, beaten, abused and systematically killed. This man happened to be a Hutu himself, but because he didn't support the genocide, he was subjected to the same treatment. This photo speaks to me because of the historical signifacne about it. The picture speaks volumes because of what the man has had to got through since all he wanted was to help the Tutsi peoples.
