When you walk in the streets of Toronto you see high rise buildings and wealth business people. There are high end shopping stores and malls with international fame along these streets. Toronto is a world renowned city for its multiculturalism and its fame for being the city of Drake who many people like for his music.
There are overlooked parts of it which many don't notice. Everyday we see so many people on the streets that we don't pay any attention to them. In Toronto there are an estimated 5,300 people who sleep outdoors or in shelters. Shelters are constantly full and cramped especially with the impending cold weather. 33% of all outdoor homeless identify as Aboriginal. They have been mistreated since the first settlers came to Canada. The affects that assimilation have had on the Aboriginal community as a whole has devoted their entire culture. 7% of homeless people report having experience in the Canadian military. Most of these people have either served in military for a long or have served when they were young. This leads to having a hard time adjusting to civilian life or they didn't go to university/college to get military training so they have little to no skill in the real world. 29% of all homeless population are over the age 51 or older. About 93% of homeless people say they want to have a permanent home. So what obstacles are getting in their way of getting it. When people say the "They need to get off their asses" or "Just get a job" they don't understand how hard it is to do. It is so much easier said than done for these people. These people already have job but can't afford housing due to the crazy high rent in the city. If they don't have a regular address or a reliable phone number/cellular device that can turn off many employers.
