DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT
In this assignment, I chose to take multiple photos of my sister on the computer. I photoshopped it so it looked like she had multiple hands typing. The message behind this is how life is revolving around the age of technology. More than ever, people are relying on connectivity. Children are growing up to an era where an online is presence is everything. Sometimes they rely so much on it that the disconnect from the world and that is what the hand represent. It shows how far they're spread at such a fast rate. If they aren't online 24/7, they are afraid that they will miss out or be judged.

Photography: Performance Task
In the first photo, I wanted to take a simple photo of myself. I had my hair down because it represents my free personality. My facial expression is happy/smug. I consider myself as a very happy person. The technique I used was studio lighting. I had my lights on so my face would be illuminated more. In the composition I had my photos next to each other. I cropped it so it would give an appearance of a reflection of the future. When I edited the photos, the originals were dark and had a yellow toned background. I wanted to create a feeling of brightness and a futuristic vibe. In the second photo, it represents what I am afraid of in the future. I am afraid that I will lose my individuality when I grow up. I don’t want to have a boring job and become a puppet. In the future, I want to make a difference and have my own voice. My strongest quality is my honesty. As I grow up I will need to be more careful of what I say. When I grow up I don’t want to lose that.

Photography Essay: Helen Levitt
Her work is mainly focused on street photography. Her photos that are on children are my favourite. The way she captures the emotions and expressions are phenomenal. She originally dropped out of high school to work as a commercial photographer. She taught art class to children in 1937.
In the first photo, the emotions the child are expressing are very evident. The way she framed the body of kid draws a lot of attention to his face. The colours in this photo are stunning, the subdued tones of pale blue create a composition that draw all the attention to the boy’s skin tone since it contrasts. To me, the picture conveys a strong story. It makes me ask about why the boy is looking like that. Did someone say something that made him feel bad? This picture is very thought provoking.
In the second photo, of the toddler and the kid staring at the window has a comical feeling. The toddler has marker all over his face. The way the drawn aspects make his face look weird and lopsided. In the other half of the photo, the boy is looking very sheepishly into the distance. This photo shows the playfulness of childhood.
The last photo is my favourite of them all. The grungy setting behind the vendor and the lady creates a gritty feeling. The emotions of the two ladies is captured very well in this photo. The thing that stands out the most is the billboard behind them. It gives the viewers the sense of time. The retro style of the board is aesthetically pleasing
For the photo I chose to represent her style is the one below because of how it looks. Even though she has many faces in her photos I chose not to include a face. I did this because the body language translates just as well. The background of my photo also gave it its timely feeling. She also often has many photos that are in line with the rule of thirds, which my photo also follows.

Alternative Processes
Right now I currently have completed two processes. The gel medium took me a week to do because of all they layering and drying. During that time when i was waiting for the gel medium to dry, I made a tote out of canvas. I wanted the gel medium to be put as the main graphic because of how iconic the CN Tower is.
For screen printing I chose a picture of a pigeon because of how contrasting it is. For the colours I chose purple and white to make a cloudy effect that relates to the bird.
I chose my t-shirt to be marketable because of it's simplicity and how easily it is to be duplicated. Another reason why I chose to duplicate the t-shirt is because of how fashionable graphic tees are this year.
My last process was photogram. My first idea was to have two people holding an umbrella under the rain. I planned to use a drawing of a girl and a boy holding an umbrella together. I would have cotton balls/strips as the clouds and water droplets as rain. When I went to gather all the materials, I could only find a little bit of cotton so I used some tissue paper as the body of the cloud and the cotton balls as wisps. On some parts of the tissue paper I had it folded up so that they would have a less or more lights go through. I cut out a picture of a girl holing an umbrella from paper. For the ground I ripped construction paper to create a soft snowy texture to relate to the water droplets that ended up looking like snow. I used a doily to create a bush to add more texture to the photo. To make sure my elements stayed in place I used the glass to hold down everything. To have a good distribution of small water droplets across the entire photo I used a see through piece of plastic sheet so I could bounce the water around. This was my first attempt at the photogram and on the second try it turned out worse because you could see all the scratches on the glass that I used to hold everything down together.
Breaking the Rules
In breaking the rules I chose my themes to be about the autumn weather.
In the first photo there is a security camera which is not which is not quite in the middle or in a rule of thirds position. Another part of the photo which doesn't really fit in is the leaf in the middle of nowhere. The mood of the photo fits in well with the mood of the theme. The grayness makes the photo look dark. In addition to that, the single leaf is very dark and helps highlight the somberness of the photo.
In the second photo, it is a photo of a hacked tree stump with a cigarette butt. Some of the wood chips are burnt. The photo is not really proportioned properly.
In my last photo it shows a pigeon spreading it's wings for landing. This is breaking the rules because of how it doesn't focus on the bird which is the subject of the photo and it doesn't take up a lot of space

PHOTO JOURNALISM
When you walk in the streets of Toronto you see high rise buildings and wealth business people. There are high end shopping stores and malls with international fame along these streets. Toronto is a world renowned city for its multiculturalism and its fame for being the city of Drake who many people like for his music. There are overlooked parts of it which many don't notice. Everyday we see so many people on the streets that we don't pay any attention to them. In Toronto there are an estimated 5,300 people who sleep outdoors or in shelters. Shelters are constantly full and cramped especially with the impending cold weather. 33% of all outdoor homeless identify as Aboriginal. They have been mistreated since the first settlers came to Canada. The affects that assimilation have had on the Aboriginal community as a whole has devoted their entire culture. 7% of homeless people report having experience in the Canadian military. Most of these people have either served in military for a long or have served when they were young. This leads to having a hard time adjusting to civilian life or they didn't go to university/college to get military training so they have little to no skill in the real world. 29% of all homeless population are over the age 51 or older. About 93% of homeless people say they want to have a permanent home. So what obstacles are getting in their way of getting it. When people say the "They need to get off their asses" or "Just get a job" they don't understand how hard it is to do. It is so much easier said than done for these people. These people already have job but can't afford housing due to the crazy high rent in the city. If they don't have a regular address or a reliable phone number/cellular device that can turn off many employers.
